This is my list of links to the best live webcam streams of animals in the wild, in zoos and in rescue centres that children can watch anytime. Kids can get a close-up view of rare species, far-flung habitats and cute and cuddly creatures from home to learn more about the natural world.

During my recent distance learning experience, I took the opportunity to show the kids in my class some of these awesome live animal streams. The kids LOVED it and were absolutely fascinated by the animals that they saw.
Our favourite animal cams were the Explore.org African Safari cams where you often see many different kinds of animals alongside one another. You might see animals bathing in a watering hole or swinging through the trees or catching and eating prey. We saw a huge family of hippos dive-bombing into a pool and then dozing on top of each other one day, we saw crocodiles a few times and another day we saw a heron catch a frog and eat it.
The kids were coming out with brilliant questions about what they saw and made requests for what kind of animal they wanted to see next. I enjoyed it just as much as they did which tells me that kids of any age would definitely enjoy having a look at some of the live animal cams below, and depending on what sort of things they have already covered at school, they might even be able to relate what they see to what they have been taught in class.

Not only were the animals themselves interesting for the kids but I also tried to explain that what we were watching was 'live', what that means and how it is possible and then also that what we were seeing was happening in another place and was
in a different time zone (maybe it was night time on the cam but day time where we were)
in a different country (not the country that we live in)
in a different kind of place or 'environment' or 'habitat' for older kids (eg. desert, savannah, under the sea)
I also like how some cams are specifically for seeing endangered or extinct animals because it's important for kids to start to understand what it means for a species to be at risk and what the risks to it are as well as how they could help.
